Promotions can be more important than content. The old saw “If you build a better mouse trap people will beat a path to your door’ is no longer true. It has been replaced with the understanding that if you promote your mouse trap well enough and make it easily accessable you can out sell the man who has made the better mouse trap. In other words, marketing is king!
For some this concept may not seem right. They long for the day when quality was king. But in today’s global village, letting people know who you are and what you have to offer is the path to riches. That is not to say that quality is dead. But quality must hitch itself to good promotions in order to ensure success.
Good promotions need not be expensive, but they must be creative. They must grab the potential customer by the eye, mind, heart or stomach and lead them to your product. Whether you use humor, sex or puppies and kittens, your promotions must stand out. Marketing is not happenstance. Good marketing is based on solid science. It is understanding that if your promotional item has a particular color, is placed in a particular place and is associated with the right buzz words the chances for your business to succeed improve dramatically.
